Thinking about what kind of paper you want to use for your wedding invitations is time well spent. The look and feel of a wedding invitation can vary widely depending on what kind of paper stock you use. Today, there are more paper choices than ever for the engaged couple to choose from that will be cost effective and achieve beautiful results.
* Cotton and Linen Wedding Invitations: While these invitations are usually the most expensive, they last for many years as a momento. These papers have a distinctive texture and feel when you run your hand over them. While 100% cotton or linen papers are a little pricey, there are many blends made that still look and feel as good, but cost much less.
* Vellum Wedding Invitations: Vellum papers have become quite popular recently. Usually, they are a translucent looking paper. Or, this paper is layered on a heavy card stock to allow the wording to be seen through the vellum. Or, heavier vellumstock can be printed on directly for a soft, frosted look. Be sure to look for bargains, as vellum papers come in a huge assortment of prices.
* Heavy Card Stock Wedding Invitations: Most wedding couples choose heavy card stock for their wedding invitations. Available in many colors and textures, this paper still has a good feel with less cost than cotton or linen. Heavy card stock holds imprints well and looks good with most ink colors and foils. This paper also ages well for keepsake invitations or can stand up to being put in a picture frame.
* Recycled Paper Wedding Invitations: This choice has become more popular in recent years and with the innovations in papermaking, recycled paper is virtually indistinguishable from paper made from virgin wood stock. With a large selection of colors, weights and textures, there are many choices for brides to choose from. In the past, recycled papers were less sturdy and didn’t hold up as well as non-recycled papers, but in the last few years, this has become less of an issue. Fortunately, recycled papers come in many different price points so it is possible to find something for any budget.
