2 weeks ago was my husband’s birthday, and let me tell you, I had run into a real situation. I didn’t even have a clue of what to get him. He is just one of these really technical guys. It’s always all in relation to computer systems and gizmos that I can neither remember nor appreciate. And besides, if he actually wants it, he just buys it himself. I make an effort not to think about the amount of cash that goes towards this.
Then, I was downstairs seeking to make any kind of headway in tidying his office, when I finally understood that the solution had been staring me in the face. To elaborate on this, let me describe his office first. My husband’s office is the shadowy, dank pit of everything is unholy. One can find piles of documents all over the place, stacks of notepads, file folders, white-out, post-its, you name the office supply and it is scattered in there somewhere. And am I permitted to touch any of the documents or instruction manuals? Oh, no! All of it is where it is for an exact reason, he would lose several hours of work and that would be a travesty for him So I dust them lightly and sanitize all-around them, carefully throwing away any rubbish that clearly does not comprise of notes on it (he adores writing important info on napkins).
But all this, I’m sure I will cope with. So it is clear a man works here, okay.† At the very least, my cleaning skills cannot be held accountable for that! However the space is totally unornamented; except if you count the gorgeous leather bound encyclopedias sitting around, the small statue on his desk, and european map poster attached to the north wall. Now, I am pretty confident, knowing my husband, that the inspiration behind the sculpture attached to the desk as well as poster on the wall, is that he desired to appear studious. Obviously, we could find the money for better than that shoddy poster, however he would by no means expend the time making it happen.
So, undoubtedly a gift to him is also a gift to me! I searched everywhere before I knew exactly what I wanted. To my amazement, I got the idea of getting him a globe. I never would have thought that this might be the answer, but the more often I thought about it, I knew a Replogle Globe will be an easy way to offer his place of work some much desired style and charm. Adding an antique world globe to his office could create that “old world” look that you would observe in an old library in Ireland or something. I found beautiful antique world globes, including desktop globes, and even floor standing globes from Replogle, which I think look spectacularly classy (Definitely thousands of times better than that darn map poster attached to the wall!).
I finally ended up deciding on an old world desktoptop globe and slipped it on his untidy desk while he was at a softball game. What a surprise, ha! It had been quite tricky getting all his books and documents back precisely as they were, but we seemed to manage it okay. And boy, did he love “his” gift! (I sure do!)
